What Is Splint Invest, and How Does It Work?
Splint Invest is a platform that lets investors buy fractional shares, called Splints, in physical alternative assets such as art, wine, whisky, watches and collectibles.
How the Customer Journey Works
1. Registration
New investors create an account and complete identity verification, as required for regulated financial platforms.
2. Browsing Opportunities
Investors can browse available assets by category. Each listing includes details on provenance, condition and pricing, along with the terms of the opportunity, before any capital is committed.
3. Purchasing Splints
Investors buy a chosen number of Splints in an asset. This gives fractional economic exposure to that specific item, rather than purchasing the whole asset outright.
4. Asset Management
Splint Invest is responsible for the physical custody of the underlying asset. This includes appropriate storage, insurance and condition monitoring while it is held.
5. Valuation Updates
Assets receive periodic valuation updates. These are based on comparable sales, expert appraisal or market data relevant to that category, so investors can track estimated performance over the holding period.
6. Fees
Fees can apply at different stages, such as when Splints are purchased and when an asset is sold. Exact fee structures are disclosed on each asset's offering page before investors commit capital.
7. Holding Periods
Alternative assets are generally held for a defined period suited to that asset category. Physical alternative assets are typically illiquid compared with listed securities.
8. Exits
When an asset is sold, for example through a private sale or auction, proceeds are distributed to Splint holders in proportion to their ownership, after applicable fees.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do Investors Own the Physical Asset Directly?
Investors hold fractional economic exposure to the asset through Splints. They do not take direct physical possession of the item itself.
Can Splints Be Sold Before the Asset's Exit?
Liquidity options depend on the specific asset and the platform mechanisms available at the time. Alternative assets are generally illiquid compared with listed securities.
How Is the Value of a Splint Determined?
Splint value is derived from the underlying asset's valuation. This is updated periodically using market data, comparable sales and expert appraisal.
What Happens if an Asset Is Damaged or Lost?
Assets held by Splint Invest are insured while in custody, in line with the platform's storage and insurance practices for that asset category.
Capital at risk. Alternative-asset investments are generally illiquid, and valuations are estimates, not guarantees. Please review the full investment documentation on the Splint Invest platform before investing.
